Black Hills” Mural

 

This mural was painted in the Social Studies class room at the local High Scool. The teacher had a blank wall, and I came up with the design to symbolize the part of American History, where the American Indians look back at the past there was. The faces of Mount Rushmore symbolizes the invasion of the white man into the native land, and what was taken away. The two indians look back at what has been lost, and the sunset of the culture they knew.

Since the mural is painted on a part of the wall that is indented, some of the details are only seen from different angles. This also lend itself to the “pillars” on each side of the landscapes, that frames it. Below is a wampun belt, to finish the picture.
